My friend Sun, who recently got married, just returned from his honeymoon in Hawaii. We decided to meet up and have dinner close to his workplace in Cerritos. Close by in La Mirada is a restaurant, Mr. V's Bar and Grill.
This place is another gem hidden in Southern California. It looks very out of place amongst its surroundings, but upon entering you're treated to a fairly upscale experience with inviting decor and ambiance. It's no Ruth's Chris or Morton's Steakhouse, but it holds it's own against the other more expensive steakhouses.
I decided to wear what many others consider to be their favorite suit of mine. It's a simple brown birdseye suit. I get a lot of compliments on this suit as many people like the earth tone and it seems to go well with my skin tone. I do enjoy wearing this suit but I still favor greys and blues more.
Sun arrived and much to my surprise he too was wearing a suit. He said he knew I would be wearing one (no surprise there) so he decided to wear one as well. He wore an impeccable suit from Yves Saint Laurent and paired it with a beautiful tie from Zegna. The suit was a gift from his wife.
There was no doubt as to the superior quality of his suit. From the perfect fit at the shoulders, the working buttonholes on the sleeve and even the hidden button on the right side of the lapel. Everyone has the buttonhole (either faux or working) on the left lapel, but very few have the corresponding button on the right side that you would use if you were to close up the front of your suit in cold weather. I wish I would have taken a picture of it.
Anyway, we had a delicious dinner and just talked about his new life as a married man and all manner of things suit related. It's always good to talk to Sun as he is definitely one of my best dressed friends. He just needs to wear a suit more often. ;-)
